Support Services

Allied Health

In keeping with our emphasis on multidisciplinary patient care, inpatient allied health services are provided by a highly competent team of allied health professionals.

This team incorporates physiotherapy, dietetics, speech therapy and radiography.

Illawarra Medical Imaging (IMI)

IMI, situated within Figtree Private Hospital, delivers superior patient care and outstanding service and reporting. Professional diagnosic imaging services for both inpatients and outpatients will be provided using specialised digital imaging on a 64 slice CT and Logic 9 Ultrasound (general, obstetric, musculoskeletal and vascular) as well as interventional services. We will also provide reporting through our PACS system for inpatient X-rays, allowing the specialists and referring doctors to view the images in real time.  

Our office hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm with on-call CT and ultrasound afterhours for inpatients of Figtree Private Hospital.

Nursing Support

We offer a range of specialised support services including:

• DVA Liaison Officer – provides comprehensive discharge planning for hospitalised veterans and war widows.

• Breast Cancer Support Officer – provides emotional support and information to patients and their families.

• Stomal Therapist - is responsible for helping patients adjust to living with either a permanent or temporary stoma (colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy). The Stomal Therapist offers pre-operative counselling, immediate post-operative care and education and follow-up assessment and counselling following patient discharge.

• Wound Care Nurse - assesses and implements the management of complex wounds. The Wound Care Nurse has an in-depth knowledge of contemporary wound care practices and products.

• Lactation Consultant – offers assistance with breastfeeding and education to mothers with latching difficulties, painful nursing, low milk production, or inadequate weight gain through in-hospital consultations, classes and post discharge clinics. The Lactation Consultant also provides information and help with breastfeeding products such as breast pumps, breast shells, nipple shields and supplemental nursing systems.

• Pre-admission Clinic – organises the details of admission to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible. Patients visit approximately 7-10 days prior to surgery.

• Discharge Planner - arranges equipment needed upon discharge and services including home care, nursing home care, rehabilitative care and out-patient medical treatment.

• Infection control – HICMR - an independent company is contracted by us to provide infection control expertise. HICMR is actively involved in ensuring we have an effective infection control program in place that is based on best practice and compliance with Australian Standards.

Pharmacy

Figtree Private Hospital has a Pharmacy on site with a full time Pharmacist to meet the needs of our patients. This Pharmacy is not open to the public.

Pathology

Southern Pathology, a private specialist pathology provides 24 hour on call service to Hospital inpatients. They also provide outpatient services.
