How do I admit myself to Figtree Private Hospital?
Your doctor will start your admission process by completing a Pre-admission “booking in” form. You may then need to attend the Pre-admission clinic (see here). Sometimes this is not required and your doctor will liaise with the hospital directly (in some surgical cases and for medical admissions). If you are transferring from another hospital, the hospital department you are located in will organise your admission on your behalf. Maternity patients are required to book into the hospital after receiving a Pre-admission form from your Obstetrician.
Can my operation be performed at Figtree Private Hospital?
Your admitting doctor will be able to advise you of whether your procedure/ operation can be performed here.

How do I prepare for surgery?
General instructions can be found here. Ask you doctor if you have any other questions.
How long will my stay be?
This varies for every person and situation. Talk to your doctor to receive an estimate.
Should I bring my regular medications into hospital?
Please bring your current medications in their original packages (including vitamins, mixtures, creams, inhalers and drops) with you into hospital. If possible, please also bring a list from your doctor of your current medications, their strength and dosages. These medications should be given to the nurse looking after you on admission.
What are the visiting hours?
Keira (Surgical) and Kembla (Medical) wards:
10:00am to 12:00pm
2:00pm to 5:00pm and
6:30pm to 8:00pm
Intensive Care Unit:
10am -12pm and 4pm – 8pm.
Rest period 12pm – 4pm (please refrain from visiting at this time).
Maternity/ Surgical (Nareena) ward:

| 1.30 pm – 3.00 pm | Mothers rest period. Please refrain from visiting at this time (excepting partners). |

How soon after my operation will I be able to drive?
It is important that you do not drive for a minimum of 24 hours after your procedure/ operation as you may be still be affected by anaesthetic drugs.
Will I be able to get a doctor’s certificate?
If you need a doctor’s certificate, it will be supplied by your doctor on discharge.
Do I need to have Private Health Insurance to be treated at Figtree Private Hospital?
Many patients admitted to Figtree Private Hospital are not insured. You can ask your doctor to be admitted here. Costs associated with your treatment will be estimated for you before admission.
If I get sick after hours, can I be admitted to Figtree Private Hospital?
We do not have offer an Emergency service. All of our admissions are elective and are made by request of an approved Specialist. Some of these admissions may be after hours, however if you become acutely ill you should visit your nearest Public Hospital Emergency Department.
What is the difference between Figtree Private Hospital and the public system?

Can I bring my mobile phone with me into hospital?
We request that you use your mobile telephone minimally and responsibly whilst inside the hospital. Please refrain from using your mobile when in proximity to patient monitoring equipment as they can interfere with the machine’s functioning.
Can I smoke in hospital?
Figtree Private is committed to providing a smoke free campus to support the well-being of patients, staff and visitors. Smoking is prohibited on all areas of the campus effective from May 31, 2011. This includes but is not limited to all buildings, public areas, walkways, roadways, grounds, gardens and carparks. You may wish to discuss Nicotine Replacement Therapy with your doctor prior to your admission.
Are family members able to stay with me?
Unfortunately we can not accommodate family members (excepting one parent during the overnight stay of an infant patient). There is a range of hotels located nearby, please see here.
